So you’re probably wondering what the heck could the title of this post mean? Well no I’m not about to write about the infamous MAC eye shadows and how eye wateringly expensive they are I’m going to talk about urban decay. Famously known for their luxury limited edition collectors palettes and NAKED palette ranges. Each urban decay eye shadow seems to feel like it was churned into butter from the heavens and then sprinkled with the finest shimmer possible topped off with amazing package I strongly believe that you can not beat them.

MAC eye shadows from my personal experience like any other brand out there are quite hit and miss. Some of the shades are highly pigmented, blend out like a dream while others seems to lack in any colour pay off whatsoever. I must point out that like MAC urban decay eye shadows are on the pricier side but they are more of an investment in quality and quantity.

In my personal experience of purchasing eye shadows I feel that the versatility in urban decay shadows are more varied than MAC you can use the shadows both wet, dry and paired with a mixing medium to turn them into cream shadows as well. I also thoroughly enjoy the colour selection of urban decay eye shadows they also have very unique names such as my all time favourite shade which is ‘half baked’ a lovely true gold with fine shimmer running through my favourite way to use this shade is by dampening my shadow brush with Mac fix plus then placing it in the inner corner of my eyes for a lovely transition during a black or brown smoky eye. I also find that using this dry as a brow highlight also works well and gives any eye look a gradient effect.

My other most used shade is called ‘smog’ which a lovely murky brown with green undertones. It looks different in all kinds of light and this shade also has a very fine gold shimmer running through it. I love using this as a crease shade and as a transition shade during a smoky eye or even used damn on a angled liner brush for an instant eyeliner applied under the lower lash line and as a winged liner on the upper lid. This is also a great day to day shade as an overall wash of colour and tight lined black liner.

Due to the butter like consistency of the urban decay eyeshades they have very little if any at all fallout which makes them perfect for everyday use quick and mess free. In comparison I regret to say that MAC shadows vary in consistency due to the million and one different type of finishes for example the extra dimension eye shadows look very attractive but the fallout is immense which a big faux pa is if you’re used to putting on your foundation before your eye shadow. The matte shades in my opinion do not offer enough pigment for the price you pay. Then there are the frost finishes and in your face glittery shades. The pigments seem to be the only range that I think are worth the money had you can use them as they are, wet and with a mixing medium to turn them into an instant cream eye shadow for summertime or a bold eyeliner for those no makeup but still want to look put together kind of days.

Stay tuned for the next post on haqstyle which will be a fully detailed review on the laura mercier silk crème foundation and a sneak peak of a review on the hourglass ambient lighting blushes.

I created a very dramatic smokey winged eye look with this palette which was a complete experiment. I was surprised at how pigmented the shades were but I must admit that some of the darker shades had some minor fall out. For this eyelook I used my mac fixplus to slightly dampen my shadow brush for a more intense application.

As you can see I used the greenish teal shade as a main all over colour with some gold accents which is the shade ‘half baked’ from the urban decay naked 1 palette. I then lined some tape from the edge of the eyebrow to the edge of my lower lash line and proceeded to created a deep black winged out edge. The tape created a very clean finish which helped it look more polished overall. As a brow highlight I used the shade ‘virgin’ again from my urban decay naked 1 palette on a fluffy blending brush  which gave it an extra subtle something. The secret to this look as you can guess is blend, blend, blend using window wiper motions to create a soft gradient effect towards your brow bone.

I would highly recommend this palette to everyone its available widely at all superdrug sleek makeup counters and online on the sleek website. All i-divine palettes retail for £7.99 and they do ship worldwide also.
